November 18th, 2024 - Governor Hobbs tours the Mariposa Port of Entry in Nogales, Arizona, underscoring the state’s commitment to border security. She was accompanied by key officials, including Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner, Troy A. Miller, Major General Kerry L. Muehlenbeck, DOHS Director Dr. Kimberly O'Connor, DPS Director Colonel Jeffrey Glover, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, and Nogales Mayor Jorge Maldonado. The tour highlights the essential roles of Task Force SAFE, a unit comprised of members of the Arizona National Guard. This task force plays a critical role in enhancing border security by assisting with secondary search and scan, rail inspections, and vehicle breakdown support.

Task Force SAFE, comprised of members of the Arizona National Guard, is assigned to support U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, assisting the fight against illicit narcotics along the Southwest border. Guardsmen are stationed within the secondary search and scan, rail inspection, and vehicle break-down teams at ports of entry along Arizona’s border.
