Governor Calls on Republicans to Pass Clean Funding for DDD, Show Arizonans Their Budget

Phoenix, AZ – After Republican lawmakers spent days grandstanding,  DCS will proceed with necessary and routine Special Line Item transfers to protect children in foster care from their political games. Additionally, the Governor continued to call on Republican lawmakers to stop holding children with autism, Down syndrome, and cerebral palsy hostage and pass supplemental funding for the Division of Developmental Disabilities.

“As a social worker who began my career working with homeless youth, I will do everything in my power to protect children in foster care from shameful political stunts,” said Governor Katie Hobbs.

“Sadly, this reckless majority continues to use people with autism, Down syndrome, and cerebral palsy as their political pawns. They have called for ‘reforms’ but have suggested none, they want to ‘negotiate’ solutions in a budget, but refuse to show Arizonans their plan. Their grandstanding is nothing but empty political rhetoric that threatens critical services for some of our state’s most vulnerable populations. It’s about time Republican lawmakers get their act together and take immediate action to pass a clean DDD supplemental instead of wasting time with even more unnecessary committees. If they refuse to pass my common sense funding measures, they need to show Arizonans their plan and send me a budget.”

DCS has used SLI transfers every year since 2016. A history of DCS SLIs can be found here.
