Phoenix, AZ – Today, as a member of the Reproductive Freedom Alliance, which filed an amicus brief in the case of Food and Drug Administration, et al., v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, Governor Katie Hobbs released the following statement:

“I will stand strong against out-of-state extremists attempting to strip Arizona women of our reproductive freedoms. Mifepristone is a safe, widely used option for reproductive healthcare, and restricting access could threaten the health of millions of Arizona women. Washington D.C. judges should not be dictating the kind of care that Arizonans are allowed to receive. I am proud to join the effort to protect access to Mifepristone and I hope the Supreme Court will do the right thing and end this attack on our basic rights.”

Recently, Governor Hobbs called on the Arizona legislative majority to pass the Right to Contraception Act, to which the Senate Majority Leader responded that women should just put aspirin between their knees to avoid becoming pregnant.

Governor Hobbs has led the way protecting reproductive freedoms in Arizona, signing an executive order protecting doctors and women from conflicting prosecution for performing and receiving abortions. In July, Governor Hobbs announced expanded access to over the counter contraception, and in October Governor Hobbs filed an amicus brief in the Arizona Supreme Court opposing reinstatement of the Civil War-era abortion ban in Arizona.
