Governor Katie Hobbs Announces Know Your Rights Website to Inform Arizonans of Constitutional Rights

Phoenix, AZ – Today, Governor Katie Hobbs announced a new website, knowyourrights.az.gov, to inform Arizonans of their constitutional rights when engaging with federal law enforcement or in peaceful protests. The website, available in English and Spanish, includes information for Arizonans if they are stopped by an ICE agent or an agent comes to their home or workplace, information for Tribal members, and guidance for peaceful protesters and observers. 

Governor Hobbs announced the website in a video address to Arizonans:

 
“During this time of heightened tension, Arizonans deserve to know their rights,” said Governor Katie Hobbs. “That’s why I’m launching knowyourrights.az.gov. There, you can find information on your constitutionally protected rights in English and Spanish, including how to lawfully and peacefully protest, what to do if stopped by ICE agents, and what to do if ICE comes to your business.

“Now more than ever, it’s vital that we protect the rights found in our constitution, and make our voices heard with calm and peaceful protest. I hope this is a valuable resource that helps us build communities where every Arizonan can feel secure and protect our families against any abuse of power. As long as I’m governor, I will always put the safety and security of Arizonans first.”

“Arizonans have constitutionally protected rights to make their voices heard and peacefully protest, observe law enforcement activity and the right to speak to an attorney if stopped by law enforcement,” said Department of Public Safety Director Jeff Glover. “The Arizona Department of Public Safety respects and is prepared to protect those rights. Our public safety officials will remain laser-focused on keeping the public safe and ensuring every Arizonan has their right to peaceful protest respected.”

“At a time when fear is being used as a political tool, information is power,” said Community Leader and Director of Proyecto Progreso Raquel Terán. “Our communities need to be prepared — not alarmed. Arizonans deserve to understand that the Constitution protects all of us, no matter who we are or where we were born. Having clear, accessible Know Your Rights information in English and Spanish helps families respond calmly and confidently if they encounter federal enforcement. When people know their rights, they can protect their families, stand in their dignity, and hold systems accountable. That’s how we build safer, stronger communities prepared, not panicked. I thank Governor Hobbs for her leadership and for launching this resource to support our communities in this time of uncertainty.”
