PHOENIX – Governor Doug Ducey today announced the appointment of former Arizona Speaker of the House Andy Tobin as director of the Arizona Department of Insurance. Since January, Mr. Tobin has served as director of the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures, a department he has been instrumental in consolidating into other areas of state government to cut down on bureaucracy.
“I’m pleased to announce Andy Tobin will continue his service to the state in this new role,” said Governor Ducey. “I know he will serve the people of Arizona with the same energy, diligence and reform-minded attitude for which he is known and trusted.”
“I’m honored to continuing serving the people of Arizona as a member of Governor Ducey’s administration,” said Mr. Tobin. “I thank the governor for this opportunity and look forward to working with him and the department to protect Arizona consumers.”
Mr. Tobin brings a wide array of experience in insurance, banking and public policy. Mr. Tobin owned and operated a local Farmers Insurance for six years and more recently, owned his own employee benefit company. He was also CEO of a local aerospace company employing 200 people for three years until 2003. From 2006 to 2015, Mr. Tobin represented rural Arizona in the state House, serving as Majority Whip, Majority Leader and eventually Speaker of the House from 2011 until 2015.
Mr. Tobin was elected the National President of the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce from 1988 – 1989. In that capacity, Mr. Tobin served as ex-officio board member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and the Hugh O’Brian Foundation.
