Dear Friends,

This week, I had the pleasure of launching the new Arizona quarters into circulation – our part in the 50 State Quarters series that began in 1999 and has finally reached our state.

The design – which Arizonans helped me choose in May 2007 – contains two of Arizona’s iconic images: the Grand Canyon and the Saguaro Cactus. As these quarters go into circulation, coin collectors and people from across the United States and around the world will be able to see the natural beauty of Arizona and all our state has to offer. Arizonans can enjoy them, collect them, and spend them with pride in our state.

I was proud to be able to distribute some of these new quarters to the children who came to the Arizona Capitol to participate in the unveiling. For those who couldn't make it, there are other ways to find for yourself this new symbol of our state.

Commemorative folios that contain the quarter may be purchased in Phoenix at the State Capitol Museum gift shop; in Tucson at the UA Bookstore in the Student Union Memorial Center; and online, at the UA Bookstore's Web site, www.uofabookstores.com. Rolls of Arizona quarters may also be exchanged for $10 at Wells Fargo bank locations.

There are also two new museum exhibits documenting our state quarter from conception to circulation. The State Capitol Museum has added the quarter to its permanent exhibit on our state symbols, and a traveling exhibit will be available on short-term loan to cultural and civic organizations throughout Arizona.

I want to thank the many Arizonans who had a hand in the creation of our state quarter. Those who served on the State Quarter Commission, those who sent in conceptual designs for the quarter, those who took time to rank the final designs, and those who came to the Capitol for the unveiling all participated in making this great new symbol for Arizona.

As always, you can contact my office at (602) 542-1318 with questions about our state quarter or anything else. Also, you can visit my Web site at www.azgovernor.gov for quarter information and news in state government.

Yours very truly,
Janet Napolitano
